This superpower is also our kryptonite: when I moved to Chile it took me a while to figure out that the reason I kept getting lost in Santiago was that I was still subconsciously orienting myself assuming that the Sun was towards the south and not the north.
I miss BASIC. I miss just using a CLI. I miss the gateway to entry on the Internet being able to cobble together TCP/IP support for your dialup modem.

Turned a free evening into an oscilloscope clock: ESP32-C3 + a $2 dual DAC (MCP4822) driving a scope in XY mode. 7-segment display, Wi-Fi synced, milliseconds included. Dead-bug wired straight onto the IC legs. Great second life for an old oscilloscope collecting dust.
my personal fedi tips include:
- follow some hashtags (#CatsOfMastodon is pretty good)
- use mute liberally. if you click "show options" you can do a timed mute that expires automatically, and or can only mute someone's posts but not their replies to you
- make a filter called like "00 filtered posts". then when you want to hide a post click the meatballs menu on the bottom right (3 dots), click filter this post, then type 00 and click your filtered posts filter

Nope, not the remains of an ancient Native structure but rather leftover trash from the movie industry. Valley of Fire Nevada State Park has been the location for many movie sets. These remains are from The Professionals (1966). It was a film about an American rancher, hired guns, the Mexican Revolution, and Pancho Villa.
