#Heliboard is gathering gesture typing data, so that we can implement a #FOSS alternative to the closed gesture typing library Heliboard currently relies on. The data we collect will be released under the CC BY-SA 4.0

I also made a video including details & instructions.

Boosts Please! The greater the diversity of people & languages in the data, the better we can test for correctness.

#ActivityPub is getting its first formal update path since 2018. I wrote about why this matters, how this leads to some strange and funny power dynamics, and about who actually participate

I wish people would stop saying "JavaScript was written in 10 days" with the subtle implication that this is somehow shoddy or half-arsed. GvR wrote the first version of Python in a month in December 1989; the first bit of C was made out of B and NB in a month or two in ~1970. Every single bit of software you've ever used that isn't some enterprise nightmare was first a proof of concept hacked together in a couple of weeks by whoever first did it. This is entirely normal; it's not a bad thing!

Firefox just updated and those shit eaters decided to add some ai slop search engine to the browser so make sure to go under your search settings and remove it like I'm about to.

Just found out that the new May / June issue of @ACM Queue is about WebAssembly.

https://queue.acm.org/issuedetail.cfm?issue=3747201

Interesting articles! Mostly focused on the core language + the web. Would be nice to also see an article about the more "systems" sandboxing aspect of WASM (e.g., Microsoft's hyperlight-wasm).

I'm beginning to understand why there are so few blogging platforms that work with #activitypub. I thought I'd make my own as a weekend project and while it shows up fine in https://browser.pub/, getting #mastodon to correctly display posts and followers is driving me absolutely crazy.

Why does Mastodon need its own weird special stuff? Why can't it just load the followers and outbox collections like the standard expects? WHY?

Why is Mozilla shutting down #Pocket instead of open sourcing it like they promised 7 years ago?
