Sometimes, my my mind wanders quite a ways from its normal grooves, and this time, it wandered into a vision of a collective that liberates motor/gearbox assemblies from Teslas and uses them to build electric tractors for small farms.

The meeting was in the 2030s-themed basement bar of the three hundred year old Regatta Hotel. “Welcome, everyone to Cryonauts Anonymous. I see we have a few new faces tonight. We’ll ask you to introduce yourselves later but first who’d like to reintroduce to the group and our new folks? Mish?”

“Hello, I’m Michelle and I’m a cryonaut from 1997. I’ve been a member for three years, since I was thawed in 2192. It took me six months to learn how to scroll documents. In my day applications had visible affordances called Scroll Bars.”

“Thanks Mish, Jaidyn?”

“Hi I’m Jay, and I’m a cryonaut from 2024, I’ve been squishy for six months. I still miss my iPhone, I can’t get the hang of these contact lenses”

“Would one of our guests like to go next? Yes, let’s give them some encouragement” *claps*

“Uh, hi, it’s great to meet you all. I’m Jess I’ve been out three days. Oh yeah I’m from 2018. I keep forgetting to wear my mask, and oh god, this is so embarrassing” *encouraging noises from the room* “can somebody explain the three seashells to me I really need to use the bathroom”

"In Detroit, hundreds of people have come together to form a “People’s Assembly” to discuss how to defend against ICE. In attendance were immigrants, teachers, students, workers of all stripes, and different groups on the left. During the assembly, the whole collective debated several strategies of how to push back on ICE, and then made decisions to take action. Since then, these hundreds of people have been meeting and continuing to democratically carry out the strategies and tactics."

In Detroit, a Broad “People’s Assembly” Forms to Guide the Movement Against ICE - Left Voice

In Detroit, a “People’s Assembly” of a couple hundred people has formed to debate and act on strategies to counter ICE and the Trump administration. Their example of democratic, independent self-organization is a useful model that can be followed in other cities.

Revealed: UnitedHealth secretly paid nursing homes to reduce hospital transfers

"The masked agents pull up quickly. They jump out of unmarked vans or trucks. They wear blue jeans or battle fatigues. They approach Latino men, at times yelling and carrying assault rifles. When someone runs, they’re taken. When they don’t answer a question, they’re taken. When they can’t produce papers, they’re taken.

"Their families won’t know what happened to them. They’ll be shackled, whisked away to another state, forced to subsist for days on potato chips, apples, water, and the occasional cold sandwich. They’ll sleep on the floor with mylar blankets, without access to showers or even working bathrooms. These are not enemy combatants in a war zone, but people living and working in America’s second largest city."

If you're on mastodon.social, you might want to move your account to a different server:

The Fediverse is protected from takeover as long as we are spread out on many servers. If one server dominates, takeovers become easier.

Mastodon.social is currently 25.5% of the active Fediverse. This proportion is way too large and seems to be increasing.

Larger servers also tend to have worse moderation and are harder to defederate, threatening safety.

Is Stephen Miller the Reincarnation of Joseph Goebbels?

Stephen Miller is what happens when Joseph Goebbels gets a LinkedIn profile and a Roth IRA. He is not merely a hardliner or a policy “wonk.” He is the fully realized bureaucratic face of white nationalism in the 21st century—clean-cut, desk-bound, and armed with spreadsheets instead of armbands.

just a completely normal thing for a republican member of Congress to do apparently

no one with any power or authority will despise out against it, the media won’t cover it as racist or xenophobic they do if you dare show empathy for Muslim people
