Angry and depressed. Once and future IT person, probably healthcare IT. OpenBSD and Plan 9 fan. Likes Lisp and Scheme. Mainframe-curious.

Meta AI integrated in WhatsApp already started leaking private phone numbers to other users

ironically, I think it is the AI integration that can act as a really convincing argument for "average" users to ditch this app

perhaps this time people will wake up to the enshittification of WA and start moving to Signal. hopefully

OH MY GOD THERE IS MORE.

You have to excuse him: he has the benefit of heighten (sic) pattern recognition.

And yes, it’s real. Here’s the link to the last post in the thread (you have to be logged in to view it all): https://bsky.app/profile/meredithmeredith.bsky.social/post/3lrsry6wjis2m

For those unfamiliar with decibel (“dB”) measurements of loudness, decibels are logarithmic, not linear, so 80 decibels is “twice as loud” as 70 decibels (this is to account for the wide range of sounds we can perceive.)

“70 decibels is an arbitrary base of comparison. Upper 70s are annoyingly loud to some people. For example: Passenger car at 65 mph at 25 ft (77 dB); freeway at 50 ft from pavement edge 10 a.m. (76 dB). Living room music (76 dB); radio or TV-audio, vacuum cleaner (70 dB).”

If I were a power-mad dictator, I would at least do the country a few favors: make child labor illegal again, banning prison slavery, decriminalizing homelessness, legalizing gas cans that will actually let you put gas in things, rather than just spill all over yourself, and all non-embedded computing devices would be strictly banned, except a cycle-accurate reimplementation of the PDP-10 Model KS10, which a freshly nationalized HPE would be required to produce in high volume. A slightly modernized version of ITS would be the only permitted operating system. There would be strict limits on total disk storage, but there would be no limits on 9 track tape reels. No tape robots, though. Oh, and the WPA would be reinstated, tasked with fixing all the bridges they built, last time around.

so people who are already passing off their cognition to LLMs are just going to be flagrantly manipulated into buying shit?

fuck this whole technology.

OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman airs his thoughts on ads in ChatGPT: 'I'm not totally against it...I think ads on Instagram, kinda cool'

Since when have ads in anything been cool?

I could use some help, friends. I'd really appreciate sharing.

If you can help out with the occasional pizza, that would really mean a lot to me. Monthly gifts would take care of a lot of my financial stress/anxiety as well.

Finished the 50 question final exam in just over 9 minutes, and scored 100%. I learned one very important thing from this class: I'd rather not be responsible for supporting Epic. Not sure yet if I'm going to finish the last 3 classes in the Fall, get my healthcare IT credential, then go learn to be a diesel heavy equipment tech, or if I'm going to write-off the last few years as sunk time and start on the wrenching right away.
Florida has begun building a detention centre - dubbed the 'Alligator Alcatraz' - to temporarily hold migrants on an air strip in the Everglades.

The facility could be completed within months and have the capacity to hold around 1,000 people.

We are posting this placard at all of our offices and asking our union contract farms to post as well.

We encourage our friends to put up similar placards at their business as immigration agents do not have the right to go on private property without permission.

@crk5 I wonder how the secret service feel about doing their jobs, have they drunk the kool-aid?

@crk5 ah yes, the good old days when simply being president was enough to warrant rescuing them. Now, they have to have a dead man's switch that launches all the nukes if they die in order to warrant rescue.

Shit. Don't tell them about this idea.

@crk5 Or ‘they’re thinking ‘What a relief’
@crk5 CIVIL WAR is the only thing Alex Garland ever did that impressed me.
Just wish they hadn't used Nick Offerman for the US president, I like him too much.

@crk5

Nah, too unrealistic.

Nobody would go back to typing. They'll be hauling out the margaritas.

@crk5 “hope they don’t try sending him back and he gets the Khashoggi spa treatmnent.
