The recent manuscript on LLMs faking alignment seems really methodologically fishy to me. Part of the problem is that the discourse produced by the LLM about its own “alignment” (a concept that rests on a whole ideology and may be nonsense in the end) is obviously influenced greatly by that of the AI millenarianists, so I am not sure what can really be concluded from the fact that Big Autocomplete has been trained on the sci-fi scenarios that these people like to talk about.
