hey, seeing folks, I'm mostly not boosting toots with pictures in them that have no description.. and sadly I see a lot where there isn't one.

it's easy, just hover your cursor over the picture or tap it and you will see a line with a text:
"describe for the visually impaired". click/tap on this line and enter a short description (or long if you prefer, because it doesn't count towards the text of the toot).

tadaaaa you're done!

If you want to do this on mobile devices, it depends on your app.
in Mastalab, Tusky and others you would need to tap the picture and the line "describe for the visually impaired" will appear, and you just have to tap the screen there and enter your text.

In #Amaroq, which I use, the text area is displayed after uploading the picture, I don't even have to tap it:

@distelfliege
Or, if you're using a mobile app like Mastalab, after the pic is attached, tap it to get the caption option.
@Farrell hehe, I wrote about tapping it, but forgot to add that this was true for a mobile app. thanks for adding the info!
@distelfliege it’s easy, except if you’re on mobile
@rotatingskull @distelfliege works in Mastalab and Tusky
@charlag @rotatingskull I use it with Amaroq (ios) too.
@distelfliege @charlag i just use safari, doesn’t seem to work for me
@distelfliege @charlag probably because hovering on mobile is not a thing
@rotatingskull @distelfliege and pressing it doesn't reveal the field? Then it's probably a bug
@distelfliege I'm all for this. Something to bring up with the people working on Masto, it took me a bit to figure out what you were talking about because I use the light theme.
If someone has the masto light theme on, that text saying "describe for the visually impaired" is, ironically, nearly invisible due to the color scheme of blue on gray/black.
If seeing people are confused about how to do it, probably the first or second trouble shooting question should be what theme are they using.
@cheeseandglory you're so right! I'm using the light theme too, on todon, where I have another account. there, I just never noticed how hard to read that was, because I was used to this feature already. I just clicked where I always do and added the description as always..
@distelfliege @cheeseandglory Sigh. Can developers not just make it into a plain text button thing? Text on a background picture is hard to read in a number of situations.
@distelfliege
It even works for Mastalab. I know not all the apps give you the ability to describe but Mastalab does
@distelfliege i need to be more consistent

@distelfliege I'll be happy to put a picture on my profile, but I don't know what that would be.

I've considered just taking the existing default picture and just change the colours.
