(the #fae should really be #faeapologism but who's going to search for that :P)
@creatrixtiara I haven't listened in 15 years, but aqua and savage garden were literaly the first two cd's i bought as a kid.i probably should but i think i probably need a couple of drinks before i can unironicaly enjoy them.
@purpleeatary saaame!! though cassettes, not CDs. I still love them very very earnestly. darren hayes is a hero of mine.
@creatrixtiara He fell out of view for me, but i should probably lend them all an ear again. the whole pwr bttm thing burned me pretty hard so i have been a little lyrically listless of late..

@purpleeatary yeah for sure!

darren's solo stuff is quite different from the SG stuff. He got really electronica and weird, which i love

@creatrixtiara Interesttinggg, where do you think i should start?

@purpleeatary Depends what you want!

Spin - first solo album, least authentic-sounding, he describes it as "trying to be Justin Timberlake before Justin Timberlake was Justin Timberlake". His weakest work IMO.

The Tension & The Spark - about his depression (esp with coming out). Dark, electronic, moody. Sounds like Depeche Mode in places. My fave of his.

@purpleeatary

This Delicate Thing We've Made - double concept album about time travel, childhood, regret (inc a video album). Also weird and electronic but of a different vein to TT&TS. Lots of Fairlight.

We Are Smug - A semi-secret side project with him & another guy making alt-dance-pop fun. Sounds really queer. My 2nd fave.

Secret Codes & Battleships - much more pop, probably closest to SG's work. 99% about reeling from a bad breakup.

@creatrixtiara Ima start with the farlight and then get queer methinks....
@creatrixtiara Tell you what his voice hasn't left me
@creatrixtiara What do you think kept you in his orbit for 20 years? I mean thats a lot of stan and im sure you haven't kept em all around.
@purpleeatary His music has always been the soundtrack to my life, even now.
@creatrixtiara accidently biographical? i think i ended up there with bowie once i made my way around his 90's work and i understood myself some more, but i didn't know it ten years ago. and it definitely didn't play enough for me to sing my life out to his tune, i guess. I've been too inconsistent for that.

@purpleeatary bowie does have a massive massive discography!

"accidentally biographical" is a good way to put it. TT&TS I connected to hardcore as someone with a (recent at the time) depression diagnosis, and Secret Codes came very soon after a terrible heartache - it was TOO REAL.

Even with the albums that are more esoteric there's always something that I find some connection to (especially his B-Sides!! I collect them, they've my fave)

@creatrixtiara pick a b side for me to youtube? cause i just have three albums queued up and you've piqued my interest.

@purpleeatary oh gods his bsides are a bear to find sometimes. out of my top recommendations this is the only one i could find on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xlab_nPNo6E
