Bij die "auto te gast" straten stel ik me dan toch zo'n gast voor die met zijn schoenen op de bank zit en ongevraagd de koelkast openrukt.
I'm so impressed with biking in NL. Cyclists don't even have to ring their bells constantly as bikes rule the road and aren't threatened every minute.
They can but there are so many bike paths that cyclists don't feel constantly threatened the way we do in other places like Canada. I noticed cyclists don't ring bells much in NL. At least in Maastricht. In Toronto, I'd be ringing my bell constantly as our bike lanes are beside parked cars (if they exist at all) and I'm worried about getting doored. I only rented a bike to ride one day in Maastricht but felt so safe in comparison. I'm glad I got to experience the Dutch biking culture even a little bit.
@chu Yea I get your point. There were protests in the 70ies by cyclists in the Netherlands to demand safer streets for cycling.

@stux no
@Zeezee @stux some in here

These look like they are mostly from the protests too.

Are you just listing movie titles like "Alien vs Predator"? :)
Though seriously, agree with you completely. All shared transport zones should be used with heightened awareness of the relative vulnerabilities.
@stux sadly, cars act like the guests that demand you to adhere to them...
Kinda like a comedian once spoke of the French "when you go to France, they expect you to speak their language, as you are a guest in their country...when they go to your country, they expect you to speak their, because they are a guest..."
I had cars on bike streets ref their engines at me, or try to cut me off, some even rammed their horn like it was a boxing machine, and used insults to get me to move to the side...
In Deutschland quasi unmöglich.
In Berlin quasi verboten.
do some cars still try to honk the bikes away that they can pass by?
