We’re totally fucked if judges can openly say they’re sentencing people who haven’t committed a crime simply for holding an opinion.

@dale_price at some point this country will wake up and realize that yes, they are going to charge you as a terrorist, no matter WHAT you do, so they'd better get ahead of the curve and actually be a good terrorist instead of an accidental one.

I believe this is what happens all the time,
Just now it's not limited to coloured, poor, ignorrable people.
Every over policed and over criminalized and over sentenced group ends up in the same spot...

I'm already guilty for existing,
The punishment is the same if I do or if I don't,
It's now a matter of calculating how much I can convince the Masters I'm safe enough to not prosecute today,
And tomorrow is another day.

@ryanroberts @dale_price @Gargron I mean the dude with a 100 year sentence shot a cop using an AR-15, so that probably affected that sentence (though tbh, 10yrs would still be excessive, the cop drew his weapon)

But the other ones are insane too.

@ryanroberts @dale_price @Gargron Ryan, this citizen of a Commonwealth nation used to admire England as the birthplace of the Common Law. The Palestinian Action law and its enforcement has been demoralizing and disheartening. The fact that the sentences are not as extreme as they are in fascist America does not change the fundamental principle that they are contrary to law and equity. (Sorry, it seems I am in a mood tonight. I should go apologize to the American I just suggested might not understand the meaning of the word “inconceivable”.)

@dale_price this madness reminds me of what happened in South Africa when apartheid was still state policy. It was enforced by the police and the judiciary to terrorise innocent citizens, simply because they held different views and demanded justice.

It is truly inconceivable that something like this is happening in the USA, the so-called land of the free.

The world is watching, in horror.

With respect, non-Americans might respond with a quote from The Princess Bride: “I don’t think that word means what you think it means”. I know it may be different with the majority of individual Americans but, for the nation USA, the rest of the world has known that “land of the free” is one the USA’s myths. From the outside looking in, it has always seemed that the only free people in the USA have always just been white folks, middle-class or better.
