💁🏻‍♀️ TIL: 🤖🍣 Researchers at the University of #Bergen built Sashimi-Bot, a three-armed #robot that shapes raw #salmon, cuts slices with a chef’s knife, detects the cutting board with a tactile sensor, and lifts each piece with chopsticks.

The #AI learned through simulation and over 12,000 practice readings. It's a big step toward handling soft, fragile materials.

This Three-Armed Robot Can Slice-and-Dice Salmon Into Sashimi

Researchers built Sashimi-Bot to master one of robotics’ slipperiest challenges.

@tksst and you would be a fool to eat this. Sushi Chefs apprentice for sometimes DECADES before they are allowed to deal with the actual fish and seafood. Why would anyone want robot made Sushi? It's probably nasty.
@csgraves this seems to be more of an exercise to teach robots to handle delicate soft objects, not to replace your local sushi master. Robot baristas exist too but no one talks about them because they're a novelty, just like this would be.
@tksst sounds like hell. What’s wrong with you?
@JimmyB There's something wrong with us because we shared a robot story?
@tksst yup. Celebrating AI with shit robot stories suggests there’s something very wrong with you. The world’s burning. How about some journalism)

@JimmyB we are not journalists. We share and amplify other organizations' reporting on many topics. Robots of *any* kind are considered scientific advances regardless of anyone's indignation, and that falls squarely in the realm of what we cover, whether it's sashimi or shoelaces.

Neither you nor we will be forced to eat robo-sushi against our will. Maybe redirect your anger to the people who are actually burning the world.

@tksst I direct my anger to crass apologists for those burning the world. Don’t platform this shit and I won’t point out your part in burning the world.
@JimmyB we aren't going to stick our heads in the sand and pretend people aren't building robots because it makes some people uncomfortable. If that doesn't align with your views then you are welcome to not read the post and not click the link. No need to shoot the messenger – we all want the world to be a better place.
