Here is a walk around the whole perimeter as it is for now. (sorry for the Youtube link it's too long for my instance.)

This is nearly maximum water, but there are a couple of low points you can see in the pictures attached so once I shore those up, the shallow parts will be a little deeper and the edge will come all the way to the very top of the berms.

Here is a before and after from the webcam.

August 31, 2024 seems like a long time ago! Labour Day weekend of that summer I rented the excavator that dug the holes!

Summer heat permitting I'm hoping by this coming Labour Day weekend we'll have grass and paths so the backyard is a little more livable around the water!

@chris

When I fantasize about having a property with a yard (daily, hourly…) it takes a fraction of a second to remember how much time and effort is involved.

I am always impressed with your accomplishments.

(I suspect, if it could ever happen, I would have hire someone to hardscape/native plants for zero maintenance, because I know me.)

@Amgine ty! I have sometimes wondered how nice it would be to have a truly no-maintenance yard... but when I look at 'hardscapes’ all I see is my body melting into nothingness. lol.

This is the opposite of that of course, but I do hope that in time 'permaculture' will take over more than a little. :)

@chris

I am not sure there truly is a 'no maintenance yard'. But I have found a few very comfortable and attractive things done by professional landscapers. And since money is not a problem in fantasy homes, I could see having it done.

In more realistic moments, after talking it over with architects in the centre of the continent, it was a solid consensus (then) that paying for a landscaper consult was always cheapest in the long run, but a split on whether hardscape was cheaper.

@chris

Very nice. Congratulations 👏 👏 👏

We've been waiting a long time for this!

@chris During the LA/Malibu fires last year one dude had prepared well. Pool + generator + pump = water from pool sprayed on roof and it saved his home. Fire dept had stopped, thinking he was illegally using city water to protect home and found out he was using pool water without affecting the strained city water.
@jfmezei this is definitely on the list of ‘upgrades'! I already have a small second-hand pump (the first pump we used in our smaller front yard ponds) that I use to completely empty the ponds when needed. It doesn't have enough power to run a sprinkler, but I'm sure I could find another that would.
@chris thats a big project, the local little critters and birds will appreciate it with this escalating summer hot season cycle.
@ChrisIstace definitely. And there will be more trees and other plantings coming!
@chris It turned out great!
@Bowreality thank you! lots to do yet but really happy that we've got to the point where we can use it and enjoy it a little while we keep working on it and the surrounding yard! :)
@chris I want one too. Haven’t gotten to it yet. So far only got the pond liner lol.
@Bowreality that's the most expensive part (usually) so that's good progress! :+)
@chris I can’t even remember. It’s sitting in the basement for a few years now 😬
