Have you been to an **academic** conference that invited people specifically to use Mastodon?

What was the conference and the hashtag?

(boosts appreciated!)

#Academia

@scroeser alas, crickets so far

@scroeser I have only heard about #osflimburg but I have not been there myself. They have an account at @osflimburg

I post about the conferences I go to and the one we are organising but no activity so far :(

Try also #AcademicChatter

@owiecc @scroeser hi!

Actually, we had a #osflimburg fediwall (https://oscmaastricht.github.io/osfl-fediwall/) in the central halls on a big screen :)

Fediwall

@scroeser hi, we're not really a conference, but a preprint server for hackathon (held by academics). so, not really a positive answer from us, but you still may be interested: we post meeting reports on this account and encourage participants to like/repost

@scroeser hi, we're a academic conference, held once every three years (well, covid aside, when it was every 4 years).

Last year, our hashtag was #iccs2025 and there has been some activity (not a lot yet).

We also note that some people who were active went to different platforms, like LinkedIn

@scroeser yes, a crystallography conference.

The hashtag was #CCP4SW, although I don't know how much traction it got anywhere.

Most online interaction was done on Slack workspace spun up for the conference.

@scroeser

Well, not sure about Mastodon specifically, but @jcls has an account here and the hashtags #CCLS2025 and #CCLS2026 have been used quite a bit.

Background: CCLS is the Conference on Computational Literary Studies organized annually by @jcls which, you may have guessed it, is the Journal of Computational Literary Studies.

@scroeser I always put my username up on my intro slide. I think I've live blogged talks in the past on here too. I present at the American Geophysical Union generally but am not an organizer
@scroeser Folks seem to be using #AGU or #AGU25 for last year's meeting
@scroeser This probably doesn't count as "academic," but #SOTMUS2026 (State of the Map US) just wrapped up and had some activity on here. (less than I expected TBH, but that's probably because a lot of the chatter happened on Slack)
@scroeser for AI4LAM's Fantastic Futures 2025 we encouraged people to use #FF2025 on their platform of choice; quite a bit of use on mastodon, some on bluesky, one lone tweet
@scroeser We are a sign language workshop series and this year we actively advertised our Mastodon account (see event title slide in post picture). We use the hashtags #SignLangLREC and #LREC plus LREC+year. The #LREC2026 hash tag had some activity for us and the LREC main conference that we are a satellite event of.

@scroeser
@ETAPSconf is here. I also put my handle in all my talks.

Also @FMASWorkshop is here.
