People complain about my Dock every time I post it, but it just underscores that the macOS Dock should support iOS-style app folders. You simply can't group apps up like you can on iOS; the only folders the Dock supports are filesystem folders, which don't work well with the Mac's Applications model
@stroughtonsmith I wonder how regular people do this now that Launchpad has been gone for a year. I think they drag their apps to the desktop Windows-style. I think it's a mistake to not have better solutions for this.
@nicoreese @stroughtonsmith first thing I do with any new mac is to set autohide on, set dock to smallest size, and enable magnification on mouseover. I'm not an ordinary user though, I'm just old
@stroughtonsmith but why are you keeping all the missing app (? Icons)?
@lucanalin most of those are my own apps that just don't currently have a successful build in Xcode. The moment I build, they return

@stroughtonsmith
Agree totally this would be useful.

It would be a big of an ugly hack, but does a finder folder with aliases to the apps work? (Not by my Mac so can’t check.)

@boxofrain big hack, and when you click on one it's going to be added to your Dock anyway

@stroughtonsmith
That too.

This is where the launcher apps come in I guess.

@stroughtonsmith How about not putting ALL THE STUFF in the dock? 🤣

Here's my daily driver, running #Manjaro(still alive, afaik) #Linux, #KDE #Plasma. (Arch, btw)

There's certainly a threshold, when the #UX becomes burdensome instead of helpful - are you using auto-aim, to hit the intended icon? 😅

On my box, i press Super(Windows) to enter "Overview" mode (Exposé on MacOS?) then i just type "rename", ah yeah, there's the batch renamer, 1st entry, hit enter, yoink!

DockFolders — Dock Folders for your Mac

@stroughtonsmith I see nothing wrong with that Dock…
@stroughtonsmith Cmd+Space, that’s how I launch a lot of apps and keep the dock down to only apps I want to see running status of and games I don’t want to forget (work/life balance issues?). But you aren’t wrong, I was surprised Dock folders are still file system linked only after updating to Tahoe.
@stroughtonsmith YES, folders would be awesome! Another thing I wish was possible is different dock contents based on the current focus. I currently have 2 user accounts on my Mac: One for work and one for personal things, so that I don't need to see Slack, etc. on the weekend.
@stroughtonsmith you could totally have folders of apps in the dock — just make folders filled with aliases from the Applications folder
