We're moving Super Mario Bros. to an agentic workflow. Rather than controlling Mario, you'll simply prompt the agent with something like "beat 1-1", and it will take direct control of Mario for you. This frees up more time for more important things like doing your taxes or being stuck in traffic
@nicole great plan, but what about when the agent hallucinates poison mushrooms and seventeen extra Bowsers

@uncledave Look agentic platformers are the inevitable future that is inevitable

By the way we're going to need a lot of those gold coins for tokens

@uncledave @nicole

You need a second agent to monitor the "Mario" agent and remind it not to hallucinate. Call it "Primary Controller".

@nicole Fedi really needs a "dislike the sentiment that this post is lampooning" button for posts like this

(yes, I know, emoji reacts exist on some platforms, including the one I use, but they federate to Mastodon as favorites I believe)
@bhtooefr I certainly hope no one favoriting this is thinking "Yeah, that'd be a huge improvement!"
Anyone who isn't having agentic fun is going to be left behind. @nicole @bhtooefr

@nicole This Is the Internet, and it's more or less a giant wish-fulfillment engine.

No, not of the GOOD wishes.

Only the HORRIBLE ones.

Any good wishes made real were an accident, and Someone will be along shortly to correct those.

@bhtooefr

@bhtooefr

You can press the boost button extra hard.
Hope this helps.

@nicole

@nicole

This is when you mistype the prompt and tell it to "Beat -1"

@nicole You forgot to add "don't die" to the prompt. Duh.

@mekki @nicole several times, if the AGENTS.mds I’ve seen are any indication

Maybe spelling out this pit and that pit and DO NOT befriend Goomba #3

@nicole I look forward to the day when I can become a "gameplay orchestrator" instead of a mere game player. That way I can tell multiple agents to play dozens of games (badly) for me at the same time.
@lda6502 Think of how easy it will be to get through your backlog!
@nicole @lda6502 finally a way to get through my ever growing Steam library!
@lda6502 Think of the productivity! You'll complete hundreds more games every year that way. You also won't actually experience any of them, but that's OK because you'll have more time to work or see ads on social media
@nicole help yoshi to do his taxes ? :D
@nicole there's a 20 year old Penny Arcade comic about this
@diogenes Turns out yet again, we didn't need AI for this
@diogenes @nicole I considered bringing it up myself, but decided against it.
@nicole some undisclosed percent of the time it will also fail to complete the level
@nicole I did this, and my (ex)friend said I "didn't really beat the game". Well, he's just a gatekeeper, and probably ableist.
@nicole you're not going to believe this
@nicole I realised that we are really there, the great future promised by Douglas Adams. We can have electric monks. Maybe we don't outsource belief so we no longer have to believe in anything but rather that we could use it to distract LLMs?
@nicole Feels great not being left behind 😍

@nicole I wonder if I could get an agent to softly guide me through Elden Ring, so I get some semblance of idea about what's going on and what to do to even find the quests, without it just being a walkthrough and without me having to spend half the time trawling through Fextralife...

#EldenRing

@nicole this with an absolutely dogshit model and using speech as input exclusively sounds funny in the same way Human Fall Flat is funny
@nicole I love this but can it sometimes kill Mario and then lie to me?
@Lyle Here's what went wrong: I told you the princess was rescued, but she was actually in another castle. Then I jumped down a pit and deliberately got a Game Over to cover it up.
@nicole and when you come back to it in a little while, somehow it is doing Space Invaders 👾
@nicole the product will be a small jpeg of a splash screen indicating that 1-1 was beaten, whilst the actual game never progressed past the start menu
