Today's #neurodivergent challenge is trying to organize objects in my home without getting completely snowed in by epistemological problems of taxonomy. I am looking at these assorted objects and just going blank on if and how they relate to each other, and where they should be put away.

If this feels relatable and you have suggestions for how to get unstuck please let me know!

I feel like these are the kinds of things that usually get shoved into an "everything drawer" 😅 Maybe I should do that and then use one of those AMC gift cards to go to the movies
@AnarchoNeighbor Very first step, IMO, is to separate out the things that can and should be thrown away, then do that. Then I might try thinking about "what room does this get used in".
@AnarchoNeighbor Also try your very very best NOT to think that you have to get it all done. You don't. Congratulate yourself on every single object you manage to put away, instead of thinking of all the ones you didn't. This may sound daft, but it's the single most helpful thing I learned in therapy (despite thinking it was dumb toxic positivity at first).

@AnarchoNeighbor

Having just moved to a smaller apartment i have been doing similar sorting of items, but have set a rule that every item goes in the "trash" category by default and must be definitively proven to belong to another category in order to be kept. The process is painful and going very slowly, but i'm getting there.

@AnarchoNeighbor My very slow house cleaning project currently has a box labeled "I don't even", which collects all of the things that I don't think I should throw away, but I have no idea what to group them with or where to move them. Of course, my wife and I are going to have to eventually figure that out, but for now, I'm focusing on the things that are easier to classify.
@AnarchoNeighbor i try to keep all my electronics together. i have a shoe box of camera pieces and cords for literally everything not plugged into the wall. the earplug pieces could also be part of this category. it looks like you have some games that could go in an activity basket (figit coffee table container vibes). some stuff i can’t identify and at a loss for. but the “beauty” adjacent stuff could go under your bathroom sink or maybe hang the fans on the wall? putting things together is super grounding for me. thank you for this online puzzle!
@lesbianbug thank YOU for taking the time to engage, I super appreciate it! There is alt text on the photo listing all the random nonsense, lol. I love your ideas, thank you!!
@AnarchoNeighbor finding out if they relate to each other doesn't matter, that is thinking about the past. Find out if they will be used in the present or the future.
