#VirginTrains were great. Pendolinos have horizontal bike racks with access to the passenger compartment and have seats marked "Reserved for cyclist". (Super?) Voyagers also had horizontal bike racks in one of the carriages.
Modern trains, designed by the DfT rather than by train companies, just have a luggage-filled cupboard to hang up child-sized bikes.
#CrossCountry Voyagers have a cupboard where the entrance is narrower than my handlebars. The #SWR this morning had a big blue bin in the (horizontal) cycle space.
Me: parks bike by my seat
Train man: "You should put that in the bike parking space in the next carriage."
Me: finds such bike parking space, but it's so full of suitcases there isn't room for a single bike
Train man, passing by again some time later, on seeing that my bike is still by my seat: "Full of suitcases as usual was it?"
