Legacy isn't really her thing. Culturally, there isn't a high value on it. I mean, a certain amount of reverence for ancestors and the people who built the stuff you enjoy is very important, but it's not so much focused on individual "heroes." That said, she would want her trophies to stay on their shelves for ever and ever, so you know. People aren't always consistent. :)

I'm not sure how to define the word "assume," here. I create my characters, and I decide "This is the hippie girl, this is the angry one," etc. They grow and develop well past that, of course. My angry one turned out to be my funny one who wanted to be the sexy badass, and he's angry because everyone loves how funny he is (ie, it's not on purpose).

There are such depths and variations in SF/F that I could spend a lifetime playing inside them. If you said that's all I get to write, I'd be fine. That said, spec fic is getting more and more interesting to me--SF without the "S"--but I also have this nagging feeling that I'd like to write a romantic story that's driven by two people finding each other.

She would say she doesn't like it when people "follow" her like she's a leader, which is true, but she's also thrilled by it, sort of *because* she believes she doesn't deserve it.
Other characters would be baffled if they hear her express all that. They'd say, "We follow you because you lead, and you're good at it."
