1.8 GB per emoji
@nikitonsky You can probably zoom them a lot without ever seeing any pixel.
@nikitonsky But they're secure ones.
@nikitonsky any update that lists new emojis as a "feature" tells me the vendor has actually run out of things to actually deliver (and is actively ignoring their bug backlog simply to keep marketing happy). I don't need new "features", I want genuine functionality and stability improvements in my OS
@Offbeatmammal @nikitonsky Sometimes the emoji are a bribe to get people to please install security updates.
@d_rift @Offbeatmammal @nikitonsky 14GB of security updates is still effin' ridiculous
@tkissing @Offbeatmammal @nikitonsky yes. I wonder if they snuck an llm local model in or something.
@nikitonsky oh it’s fair. You know, all those hundreds of pixels, or vector graphics, take space
@nikitonsky @briankrebs
I like how it's nearly impossible to read the '26' on the icon. Truth in advertising.
@nikitonsky good, if it would be 14 GB of Security Updates I would get worried
@nikitonsky
.... and deeper AI integration so fuck off and die Tim Cook. Oh, looks like you're already doing that.
@nikitonsky 🫪 that guy's got a lot of big feelings... they take up space...
@bloodripelives that’s just six stripes though...
@nikitonsky each one is 300 MB
@nikitonsky
Each emoji ships it's own VM, which runs a physics simulation, so that the images don't just appear round, they ARE round, at the atomic level.
@nikitonsky it's a package a multi résolution bitmap up to 60K in case we show them on the moon with a big projector
@nikitonsky also known as `git commit -m "minor fix"`
@nikitonsky or it's 10MB per emoji and 14.41GB of "security updates" (read: ecosystem lockdowns and extra telemetry)
@vivi @nikitonsky or, going by the phrasing, the 8 emoji _are_ the security updates
@nikitonsky È più ridicolo degli "stability fix" di Nintendo.
@nikitonsky I assume it's an AI feature and 8 emoji like lolipop from a physician
@nikitonsky omfg, why are they humongous?
@nikitonsky
I installed gimp, 37 MB. It's a strange world.

@nikitonsky

sounds like they're going to install a chatbot on your system

@nikitonsky more important metric: what is the ratio of Emojis to total sum of fixed CVE scores?
@nikitonsky high resolution gfx for your retina display
@nikitonsky this update sucks. it seems like they're tracking more and more stuff in the name of "functionality" that's really just extra data harvesting (or surveillance fodder, perhaps).
@nikitonsky Back in my day, we installed Mac OS from 1.4MB floppies and just used ascii to emote! :) X’D
@nikitonsky I did the math for you. The emojis resolution is 22000x22000 pixels, and they are not compressed.
@nikitonsky Why do we need emoji security updates? Was there an emoji vulnerability? 🤔

@nikitonsky It's 8 new emoji security updates, not 8 new emojis.

Several (8...) emojis had a vulnerabilities, and you gotta expect at least 14.45Gb to fix vulnerable things...

@nikitonsky Those high DPI displays must be quite something now
@nikitonsky The nonsense things about Apple's updates.
