I finally got an ear on my loaf. I’ve been working on this for months, and I finally got it. I’m going to hashtag the shit out of this.

A year. I’ve been working on this for a year. 10th of May, 2025, specifically.

Me, a year ago, looking at photos of other people’s sourdough starter jars: <eyeroll>

Me, now: Look at how happy my BABY is! LOOK AT HIM!

@rigger For several years (roughly 1996 to 2008, I think) we kept little Stinky happily fed and de-hooched and all that, and made a lot of pretty sourdough. 😅

Then, for a long time, my webpage on the topic was so heavily-trafficked that it inspired the very snarkiest parts of the FAQ for my old website. So. Many. Sourdough. Emails. 😮

In 2018, this was one of the main reasons I finally took my homepage down!

@SJohnRoss Then there is a non-zero chance that I visited that part of your site.
@rigger I am proud of you!! (And the loaf in the back knows what it did)
@rigger @stufromoz looks fantastic! 👏Only learnt about the “ear” last night, watching an old Adam Liaw show.
@treleanor Yeah, I only semi-recently learned it was a desirable thing with a name, but I had to have it. 😄
@rigger excellent! I'm told the trick is to cut horizontally by the inhouse baker . I am not allowed to eat the bread for health reasons but I still enjoy the smell of fresh sourdough.
@CaraBruar That’s exactly what I ended up doing (along with another dozen or two variations that didn’t work.)
@rigger trial and error is the source of many wonders. Your bread looks good.
