Every AI Bro: We are here to save humanity. We will start by making electricity, water, and electronics more expensive in order to build a machine to put you out of a job. You may begin showering us with gratitude now.

@maxleibman

showering?? In this AI economy?!

@noondlyt @maxleibman especially with the data center they built next door!

@gizmomathboy @noondlyt @maxleibman

And they won't even pipe the hot water over into my shower! 💢

@maxleibman owners of capital have been so hoping to become feudal lords, and decided they’d accumulated enough control over resources to force everyone else to become serfs.

@maxleibman I'm Mr. AI Bro look at me.
Mr. AI Bro look at me.

Mr. AI Bro look at me.

They're self replicating too. When they find a problem they cannot fix, instead of asking the people who can solve it, they just make more Bros.

@maxleibman
I was thinking using the Iranian approach to data centers instead.
@GOKUSHRM @maxleibman that might just be wishful thinking 🤔
@connynasch @maxleibman it's not a wishful thinking.. It's a cycle of life. Once u reach at peak of any mountain thn there is only one path that goes down.
@GOKUSHRM @connynasch @maxleibman time is the factor in declinedifferenciation
@WingedSnake @connynasch @maxleibman more they try to squeeze the community, faster they will fall
@maxleibman Electric power is very important for AI.
@pizzaedition @maxleibman yeah, I have read that they will not operate without it...maybe it`s just an urban legend :D
@maxleibman Beware the man who tells you AI will liberate humanity. He does not mean you. He means himself. You are the thing he wishes to be liberated from.
@maxleibman @lisamelton except the machine won’t actually be able to do your job.
@fabienmarry @maxleibman @lisamelton They'll offer you a new job, at half the pay of the old one, correcting the AI's mistakes.
@fabienmarry @lisamelton This is about what they believe (or what they’re selling, anyhow), not a statement of what AI can actually do.
@maxleibman Understood but it's sill important to call out that BS every time.
@maxleibman and also sell a dream to your CEOs with the delusion that they can do all sides of development well
@maxleibman it reminds me of Lord Farquaad: "Some of you are going to die, but that's a price I'm willing to pay."
@maxleibman I can think of several things to shower them with.

@tribactam

Nah, those are people "I wouldn't piss on them, if they were on fire." (line is from Chumbawamba song)

@maxleibman

@FandaSin @maxleibman it's been around a long time - we used it when I was a student back when dinosaurs ruled the earth.

@tribactam

Might be.
I know it from them...and they are kinda old too, but you are probably right, that the line is not from them.

@maxleibman

@maxleibman And we are all just sitting and watching that our world is going to end

@maxleibman we're going to change the world by (checks notes) rendering it uninhabitable.

(If they actually build all those imaginary datacentres, that is.)

@maxleibman Don't worry about your spouse's AI induced psychosis, it's all part of our master plan
@maxleibman "soon, you'll never have to work again. robots will do the work for you!"

"then how will i make an income"
@mjdxp @maxleibman The missing step of "that won't be necessary, we'll abolish capitalism" is of course always missing. Or it's "in favor of feudalism" which is not an improvement.
@maxleibman The strategy of the Tech bros is to demonize regulation of the technology that will enrich them. Hinton (who pioneered AI) warns that *regulation* is urgently needed and it's unlikely to happen when governments are corrupted by tech money.

@maxleibman Dr. Hinton: the better analogy for regulation is the steering wheel. It's not a break on progress, rather it steers it.

We still drive cars, despite regulations requiring that windshield glass doesn’t decapitate us during impacts and that we avoid the second crash within the car with seat belts.

Dr. Hinton warns that #AI urgently needs to be regulated. This is what gets the MAGA world riled up.

@maxleibman not needing a job while still getting UBI would be a "saving" of sorts. But yeah, they are not planning for UBI either, they just expect people to buy goods and services with imaginary money they get from their lack of jobs.

@nyx Yeah, I don’t believe they are sincere at all about the UBI part.

Max Leibman (@[email protected])

When AI boosters talk about universal basic income to excuse all of the jobs they claim they can eliminate, ask: “Then why are you working on AI, and not on universal basic income?” If you are a journalist in this space and you don’t ask this every time UBI comes up, you are not doing your job.

beige.party
@nyx @maxleibman I wouldn't take for granted that UBI would result in an improvement of our condition: the UBI may be meager enough that all you'll be able to afford is to live in a pod and to eat rice and beans at every meal or the UBI can be used as another tool to keep citizens in line so if you dissent with your government or with the billionaires who "generously" fund your UBI you have no choice but starve.
@emilianosandri @maxleibman sure, yeah, there are always ways on which things can be dystopic. But it is not like things are great right now either.

@maxleibman Every AI Bro: we're here to save humanity... in the far future! So right now, you will have to excuse the bloody mess we're making. Remember, you grand, grand, grand kids will thank us!

...and now get back into the lithium mines when you're done queuing for your water ration!

@maxleibman 'Humans use energy and water too guys!'
@Rycochet @maxleibman - Water a precious resource wasted to supply AI a cooling facility. Sabotage with Salt water.
@maxleibman In other words; please ignore our luxury bunkers.
@maxleibman AI is a social economic problem. Tax AI and data centers. Use it for a livable UBI.
@maxleibman also, we need all your money. No you can't have it back because we burn it. And if we somehow fail we'll need all the rest of your money to save our asses
@maxleibman I love you, Max. Puttin' our jumbled thoughts into coherent sentences. Well done.
@maxleibman And then it starts to go downhill.

@maxleibman I sometimes wonder if capitalism would have collapsed near the beginning if labor rebellions hadn't forced concessions out of capitalists.

Capitalists are parasites too stupid to understand that they're killing their hosts.
