Shh! Don’t tell them!

I cannot over-state how a single bad teacher can create a lot of harm to so many kids.

Monday briefing: Will a new alliance of nations be able to guide the world towards a post-fossil fuel future?

In today’s newsletter: As oil prices spike and geopolitical tensions rise, a diverse group of governments is attempting to build momentum and rewrite the global energy script

The Guardian
The irony: the people fighting hardest to keep fossil fuels dominant may have done more to accelerate the energy transition than any carbon tax ever could. Energy security and economics are doing what moral arguments couldn’t.

The Iran war just did what a decade of climate policy couldn’t: made fossil fuels look economically unreliable. The IEA calls it the “largest supply disruption in the history of the global oil market.” Oil demand (forecast to grow in 2026) is now projected to contract by 80,000 barrels/day.

@jjbaumgartner also because the President attempted to elide the War Powers Act by saying that the war was over. There are an awful lot of journalists who spend most of their energy trying to make him seem normal/conventional rather than the outlaw he is.

From CNN: "The fragile ceasefire between the US and Iran is being tested after both sides fired shots in the Strait of Hormuz."

Dear journalists,

Words have meanings. If shots have been fired, then by definition, there is no ceasefire.

Sincerely, everyone who wants this shit to be over and done with.

P.S.: Fucking cowards.

Plan to get 'every last possible Republican out of office' flagged: 'Fight fire with fire'

In the wake of the Supreme Court having issued a controversial ruling that critics warn may “demolish” restrictions around racially discriminatory voting policies, progressive writer Ryan Cooper laid out a plan Sunday that he argued could potentially unseat “every last possible Republican out of off...

“Secret Service officers shot a man during an exchange of gunfire Monday near the White House in an incident that wounded a child who happened to be in the area.”

They opened fire in a public place and shot a child.

“plainclothes officers determined that a person had a gun and called for backup” makes it sound like the gunman was pressured into a shootout, but, whatever.

A binman in Turkey’s capital found a bag of thrown-away books on his rounds and couldn’t bring himself to take it to the dump. He kept it. Other workers started doing the same. The pile has now grown into a public library of over 9,000 books, run by sanitation workers, in an old brick factory 📚
