Imposter syndrome is largely an affliction of the competent. Actual impostors seem to feel just fine...
@Daojoan this is like the Westenberg Corollary of the Dunning-Kruger effect

@albnelson @Daojoan

wasnt dunning kruger not just autocorrelation, tho.

not saying this behavour of some people is not observable

They don't know what they don't know, and everyone is worse for it
@Daojoan See Donald Trump.

@Plantwizard @Daojoan

i think you mixed it with traitor

@utf_7 @Daojoan He's under the illusion he's competent at running the country and yeah he's a traitor too.
@Plantwizard @utf_7 @Daojoan
My first thought too - just wanted to confirm that someone else had already pointed out Trump as a prime example 😂
@Daojoan I hope I can remember this the next time I try to convey lessons I've learned from experience to peers through the crushing sound inside my brain that everyone will find flaws in the methods under which I did things, and that I'm a fraud to be crushed under the heels of giants that I thought I was riding on the shoulders of
@Daojoan ha, checkmate. I know I am an idiot and spend the rest of the time overcompensating

@Daojoan

the wise are painfully aware of vast domains they do not know

and idiots "know everything"

@Daojoan We need to concentrate on stopping Blowhard Syndrome instead. https://xuhulk.tumblr.com/post/110549967516/stop-blowhard-syndrome
Stop Blowhard Syndrome

When I express any shred of doubt about whether I deserve or am qualified for something, people often try to reassure me that I am just experiencing impostor syndrome. About 10% of the time, it's...

@Daojoan I mean con-men and self-proclaimed "Alphas" have no conscionce and/or morale so kinda checks out.

Smart people are often humble since people are taught that "showing off" being smart is bad
@Daojoan c-c-competent ¬ne'er-do-well 🥹
@Daojoan If I'm the Temu version of the better version of myself, then I like to think I give the viewer a lot to look forward to.

@Daojoan

Sure, they have no shame…

@Daojoan
That is why it's called syndrome

@Daojoan Seems to be. A friend I have chatted with years remains. afflicted - professor of psychology that never fails to respond to matters I raise.

It is a matter akin to great intelligence - the more you have the more you can sense what you do not know.

By contrast, ignorance can give blinkered confidence - personified in Trump.

@Daojoan You need to have a certain amount of knowledge to know that you don't know enough for whatever you're trying to do. And nobody who is trying to achieve anything of significant complexity ever knows enough.
@Daojoan I wish I really had imposter syndrome. People think I do, but really I'm not that sure I have it.
