Pleased to officially release Gnome: An app that simplifies finding and sharing GIFs on your Mac.

https://lexfriedman.com/gnome

My goals for the app were simple: Make it easier to share GIFs, make an app that looks like it belongs on the Mac, make it work well with local GIF libraries, and make it good enough that Casey Liss would use it.

I think I've achieved all of those.

Check it out!

@lexfri Glad there’s no other desktop software called Gnome, because that would be confusing… 😇<ducks>
@lexfri why oh why would you call it gnome? @gnome
@liaizon @gnome Explanation attached. I don't think there's great risk of folks confusing us.
@lexfri so *that*'s how you pronounce the ‘g’!

@lexfri @jsnell “The app is $7 to unlock everything forever. Go ahead and grab it. Otherwise: after five minutes of unpaid use, the app will only ever return GIFs featuring “Weird Al” Yankovic or Rick Astley. Which is, depending on your perspective, either a steep penalty or a generous gift. Your call.”

😂

@lexfri I’m excited to give this a try. I take it is macOS only (for now)? I’ve been looking for a good iOS app that lets me use a Messages app to browse a custom GIF library (one that’s separate from my Photos library). Sounds like this could, on macOS at least, solve that problem?

(Really, I just want a dedicated repository of Veep memes I can pull from without having them clutter my Photos library).

@peterpuleio There's a TestFlight for iOS as well, but yes, sounds like I could solve your MacOS issue at least!
@lexfri Aaaand purchased! With just a tiny bit of regret, because the 'All Weird Al and Rick Astley' mode isn't necessarily something I want to give up.
