@LovesTha asked:

Q3. How do you keep toes warm when riding a bike? This morning was cold, but not crazy: ~5C, and not raining. I had on thick "water proof" long socks. But my toes still got very cold.
The obvious (but expensive) option would be shoes that are intentionally less ventilated. Is that going to make enough of a difference?

@Pionir added: how does this change for flat pedals vs clipless?

@ascentale @LovesTha @Pionir @bikenite #BikeNite A3 Pogies but for the toes. Togies? Plastic bags to improvise, wool socks, at minimum cover up the vents in the face of the shoe to keep breeze out. https://www.gorewear.com/us/en-us/c3-windstopper-toe-cover-100226?variant=3228

@EndCashBail @ascentale @LovesTha @Pionir #bikenite a3 are people wearing these neoprene toe covers over the shoes? I've had the full shoe neoprene covers, but they get dirty (hassle to get shoes off) and rip easily. These thin neoprene toe covers over socks work for me though, as long as your shoes are roomy enough in the toebox to not compress the insulation / your foot.
@enobacon @EndCashBail @ascentale @Pionir a3 #bikehite is there an over shoe cover with the under shoe bit being hard wearing rubber and neoprene upper?
@LovesTha @enobacon @ascentale @Pionir Closest I can find is from Endura, the MT500 Plus Overshoes https://www.mbr.co.uk/news/product_news/endura-mt500-plus-overshoes-355435, which might be discontinued? Looks like the design assumes you're wearing FiveTen mtb shoes and exposes the shoes sole, but has a sturdier sole and toe than bog standard cleat-focused overshoes. YMMV.

@EndCashBail @LovesTha @ascentale @Pionir #BikeNite A3 Having that full coverage layer and something fitted to your shoe sounds good (do they make them for 12in feet though?) The trick might be how messy are your hands getting when you take off the overshoe, when they're covered with wet road grit, and similar for putting them back on. (For running errands or going to a meeting/dinner.) A generous front mudflap can do wonders for that road spray on your shoes *and* your drivetrain though.
@enobacon @LovesTha @ascentale @Pionir #BikeNite A3 After some digging, I think this option from #GripGrab to be a reasonably priced 'normie shoes cover' option - for flat pedals and a shorter ride in the wet. Company is Dutch, they've even got sizes for Bigfoot (xxl Euro 49!) . Not Neoprene, 90% Polyester, mostly open sole that doesn't look Super durable for walking, but straightforward on/off... https://www.gripgrab.com/collections/shoe-covers/products/dryfoot-waterproof-everyday-shoe-covers-2?variant=40642768765089
