This, in a nutshell, is why it is dangerous that all liberal media is now setting up shop on Bluesky.

We have a critical midterm coming up and these important voices are willfully submitting to a censorship regime run by crypto VC tech bros.

I cut ties with Twitter and don’t use Bluesky

But Mastodon’s search lacks the option to follow words that aren’t hashtags

This has privacy issues for some. But I think that’s what opt-in is for

#DisabilityTwitter could not move to Mastodon because they rely on full post search

Networking for obscure terms like the symptoms or diagnoses of rare diseases

Nobody can # every vital word in posts, so Mastodon remains far less usable for #disabled users

This is not true. For over a year now Mastodon has had a very powerful search capability, with the ability to search for words and terms, and options for modifying the search based on arguments like 'before' any date and 'has' media.

I’m happy to be shown how to do this. My search last week led me to articles similar to this one

The feature I’m looking for, and what #Disabled users and others use extensively to find communities is the ability to Follow search terms

Without having to look them up each time. Maybe I’m missing that. But I’ve got #Accordion and #disability in my feed

But can’t find a way to add all posts with the words “accordion” and “disability”

Darn I had my hopes up. Maybe someday there will be a way to balance people’s privacy commence with the needs of those who would use the feature

I think with opt-in like with the current search expansion it could be doable

I would want privacy minded users to be able to have their accounts very secure
