I see more native bees than honey bees, but there are some, tending to be earlier than natives. I often see a few around blue tarps in my woodcutting area early spring- there was 1 a few weeks ago! No flowers yet-I haven't even seen any flowering catkins, nothing herbaceous flowering, still snow
This one was obsessed with my chainsaw + on an old broom, blue tarps etc. Is the smell of gasoline appealing? Blue tarps look like- water?

@cohanf they are attracted to fresh cut wood. I get them in my shop when I turn wet wood.
@boyago That's interesting! I hadn't cut anything yet today when I saw it, but I think the tarps already draw them for whatever reason- +who knows if the scent of the sawdust from previous occasions was still detectable...
