Ludwig Vielfrass

My German has gotten rustier and rustier since my mom died nearly 10 years ago. At that point, she was my last living German-speaking relative. It is getting harder for me to read and forget hearing it at this point.

Anybody out there have interesting and not too heavy German language first Fedi folks they follow? Bonus points if they don’t mind interacting with someone whose German language skill sucks?

The original German sources are linked at the bottom of each page - although they are in 19th century German, and usually written in the Fraktur typeset, so they are not exactly texts for beginners.

@andijah Danke! Ich schreibe und produziere auch Musik. Meistens ist es eigenwillige elektronische Musik, aber hin und wieder mache ich auch Ausflüge in die Orchestermusik und Filmmusik.

@lerxst hast du eine Empfehlung, was ich mir einmal anhören sollte von deinen Sachen?

@letscallhimsteve good call. I don’t have much time for solo TV, but I wonder if I just have it on in the background while I’m working maybe my ears will at least refamiliarize with the cadence and words.

@lerxst German here. open to any connections (penpalling?). also, some of the suggestions are good (TV, easy language etc.) . Plus if you have netflix, there is a ton of stuff you could watch in dubbing (or even original) or with subtitles. and with and some without VPN (darned geoblocking9) German TV online. if there are topics you are particularly interested in I might be able to give you some ideas

@lerxst My history might interest you: my paternal grandfather was a professional soldier in the British Army, and was stationed in Cologne as oart of the occupying troops shortly after the 1st World War. He fell for a German girl, one of three sisters. The eldest owned a house with a pub on the ground floor and an apartment above. /2

@lerxst I moved to Germany for work when my two kids were two and three years old, originally planning to move back to Scotland when they were five and due to go to school, but Germany suited us fine and we stayed. My daughter is a lawyer in Berlin with three kids, my son a CIO in Rheda-Wiedenbrück with 2 daughters.

In my second marriage, I have, like my grandfather and father before me, married a German girl!

So fairly well embedded!

Da Du Deutsch üben möchtest, antworte ich Dir auch auf Deutsch.

Um das Hören zu üben, könntest Du Podcasts hören. Da kommt es darauf an, was Dich interessiert. Ich mache das für Schwedisch und höre da zum Beispiel einen über Geschichte vom schwedischen Radio.
