My German has gotten rustier and rustier since my mom died nearly 10 years ago. At that point, she was my last living German-speaking relative. It is getting harder for me to read and forget hearing it at this point.

Anybody out there have interesting and not too heavy German language first Fedi folks they follow? Bonus points if they don’t mind interacting with someone whose German language skill sucks?

#german #deutsch

@lerxst I'm a Scot living in Germany since 1973. Mostly post in German, sometimes English, sometimes both. My mother was German, too.
@RonInDortmund right on! Followed.
@lerxst My history might interest you: my paternal grandfather was a professional soldier in the British Army, and was stationed in Cologne as oart of the occupying troops shortly after the 1st World War. He fell for a German girl, one of three sisters. The eldest owned a house with a pub on the ground floor and an apartment above. /2
@lerxst My father was born above the pub! He in turn was stationed in Bielefeld after the 2nd World War and fell for my mother. Back in Edinburgh, they married and I was born. At that time I had two aunts and 5 cousins in Germany. /3

@lerxst I moved to Germany for work when my two kids were two and three years old, originally planning to move back to Scotland when they were five and due to go to school, but Germany suited us fine and we stayed. My daughter is a lawyer in Berlin with three kids, my son a CIO in Rheda-Wiedenbrück with 2 daughters.

In my second marriage, I have, like my grandfather and father before me, married a German girl!

So fairly well embedded!
