For tons of folks, there was that -one- game that blew the doors open and showed what #TTRPGs could be. The one that started the #IndieGame rabbit hole.

What was YOUR "gateway" indie #TTRPG? The first one that made you realize a whole other world was out there?

@thoughtpunks FATE for me. First game I picked up that also had players do the worldbuilding. I still love it.

@thoughtpunks It was FATE for me too. When the GM let a player make an "attack" with the Crafts skill (by collapsing a chain-link fence on the enemies) it blew my d20-playing mind wide open.

I still run the odd game of FATE, but I appreciate how modern games have picked up that torch and taken it further.

@thoughtpunks Land of Eem (I'm a late bloomer)
@thoughtpunks for me it was Daytrippers by Tod Foley. It was the first game for me that broke out of the traditional lense.
@thoughtpunks Wanderhome unearthed the idea in me that players could set their own goals and expectations with success not having to follow any particular template. It also made me a lot more interested in doing things for the experience than in figuring out ways to avoid doing things in a game in order to maintain the experience.
