What's the most surprising thing you've ever heard on the air?
The most surprising thing I heard was people talking about weed and hookers.. but on #CW , not #SSB . I think I still have my notes on that one somewhere.. it was just ont the kinda thing i am used to seeing on #MorseCode.
Dr David Mills@sergio_101 Not exactly surprising in my case, but I used to chat frequently with a friend - just what's on the workbench type stuff. We had to move to more and more obscure bands and modes because we'd keep getting calls from people who "had no knowledge of what you're chatting about, but let me waffle on..."
I think contestia mode on 70cms LSB was about the only place we were ignored.
Comrade Weez@sergio_101 Many rigs don't mute the mic audio when sending digital modes eg JT65, FT8. I have heard 15 second snips of a full-on domestic blue between a ham & his XYL over top of his digital data.
yeah! and sometimes they pipe their system sounds.. so you hear bings and bongs and sometimes music or videos..
@sergio_101 Some folks haven't worked out you need 2 sound cards to avoid stuff like that
smalldog club ☑️@sergio_101 maybe not really a surprise, but I think the old guy was trying to be humorous. There was an OM overdriving things like crazy on SSB by yelling into the microphone that Arizona was full of retirees, and couldn't take any more, so don't anybody think about moving out there.
