It's only early April and this year has already been..wild. I turned 40, got surprise diagnosed with diabetes, changed my entire diet and exercise habits, got my glucose under control (with the help of medication), feeling like a 1000% better, steadily losing weight and just started an online running program. Running. Program. Me? That one I did not see coming honestly (and if I tell enough people about it I can't just quit  )

@koomahi come join us <said in a whispering low voice that's hard to place> #RunnersOfMastodon

Oh happy cake day and feeling better \o/

@koomahi You’ll find a lot of support on the #running hashtags here. All types of runners, united in one foot in front of the other. 🖖🏻
@WTL @koomahi Hey, welcome aboard! And I can tell you: @WTL is right! Here are many runners, just follow #Running or #mastorunners and you’ll find loads of people who run from 1-2 km/twice a week to those *running nerds* who are crazy enough to run a half marathon each and every day…

@sebastianhahn @WTL @koomahi

welcome aboard fellow addic...^w runner !

@koomahi Yes exercise makes a huge difference even just walking for a few minutes after a meal.
Also - every body is different, measure the effects of different foods. I had some very surprising results esp. with artificial sweeteners.
Try to stay in control, some meds can make you go too low if you skip a meal. Really low blood sugar (<3.5mmol/l) is a terrible feeling.
At first it can feel overwhelming but once you figured out your diet, meds and exercise it is OK
@grumpyoldtechie Thanks for the tips! I'm a little bit scared of actual lows, I've had relative hypo before and that already feels horrible. Luckily my medication plan is quite cautious so risk of actual hypo is pretty low. Experimenting and learning as I go.
@koomahi One thing I’ve learned since being diagnosed with diabetes last year at age 42 is that it is possible to live a very good life with diabetes. I feel stronger and healthier now than before I was diagnosed. Best wishes to you on your journey. Sounds like you’re off to a good start!
