#ClimateDiary This really is a wonderful Easter present. Greens leading UK polls!
For those of you not in UK: this is unprecedented, and as little as six months ago pretty unimaginable. Happy Eastear everyone!

#GreenParty And I am not going to let these good news (⬆️😊💚) be spoiled by Trump but have to add this here for the record - US president’s Easter message. What an Easter in politics!
@pvonhellermannn More and more people are realising that voting for a Nazi party is not a good idea!

@pvonhellermannn We had such a situation in Germany in May 2021. The vote in September 2021 looked totally different, though.

But it was funny to see the reactions of the fossil industry, agriculture (factory farming etc.) and other sectors to these polls.

@neuimneuland yes, you are right - all this will change so mch still and actual elections are different. But in itself still great - reactions and all!
@pvonhellermannn The halitosis of polarization: Reform breathing its foul fossil fuel stench down the Green neck...

@pvonhellermannn

Na ich weiß nicht. Wer sind die Blauen dort? 🤔

@pvonhellermannn

Good news that the Reform fascists go down, but the Greens' positions towards NATO and Russia are problematic to put it mildly.

@proscience @pvonhellermannn

Green policy on NATO:
Which bit is "problematic" ?

"We acknowledge the need for greater defence spending and continued NATO membership, but also call for a more thorough reappraisal of strategic defence alliances. With Trump no longer a reliable ally, we need to deepen our defence cooperation with the EU, and review AUKUS."

Greens call for investment in genuine global security   - Green Party

In anticipation of the outcome of the strategic defence review being published today, Ellie Chowns MP, who holds the defence brief for the Parliamentary Green Party, said: “We acknowledge the need for greater defence spending and continued NATO membership, but also call for a more thorough reappraisal of strategic defence alliances. With Trump no longer […]

Green Party
@OliverNoble @proscience @pvonhellermannn "We acknowledge the need for greater defence spending and continued NATO membership" all of those things sound awful

@Fu
I think currently NATO is not ideal and needs to change& ultimately maybe be replaced by a European agreement

Also the current UK "defence" budget may be sufficient if it was used for *defence*- so no more flying reconnaissance for Israel, and no repeat of Afghanistan or Iraq etc which were so costly (in every sense) and were hard to justify as defensive

The stated position from the greens doesnt exactly align with my ideal either, but its close

See the link (above) for full context

@pvonhellermannn
Never let it be said that my glass is half-full!!!
There is still a lot of work to do. My reading is: "The system is fine, it just needs minor tweaks, 17.0 + 9.2 = 26.2%" "The system is generally OK but needs to be more brutal, 20.9%" "System, what system? This is just the natural order of things. Perhaps some minor adjustments towards brutality? 20.4%"

There is still a large majority who don't recognise that the existing system is making the planet uninhabitable for humans.

@pvonhellermannn why does Lord Ashcroft get so many votes tho
@pvonhellermannn It’s hard to explain how extraordinary this is. I’ve been a Green Party member for 16 years - we used to think 10% was good.
@seb321 @pvonhellermannn I'm the u. S. A green getting 1% is good
@pvonhellermannn and it’s based mostly on antisemitism, anti-Americanism, love for Putin, and generally a regressive type of antiimperialistim, isn’t it? Because that is the only real differentiator the Green Party in the UK seems to offer compared to Labour or Liberal party
@pvonhellermannn Good news even if that comes with the fact too many people seem to be okay with voting for the tories after the last 15 years.
@pvonhellermannn Ashcroft is probably the least reliable pollster overall alas but still a nice report.
@etchedpixels @pvonhellermannn yeah, I want to believe... but ballotboxscot does not trust Lord Ashcroft on voter intention surveys, they do them in uniquely weird way

@pvonhellermannn hadn't really heard of Ashcroft before. Hope his numbers are good, bc his opinions...

> there will always be people eager to believe we can fund the NHS by taxing the rich, that legalising drugs will make our streets safer ... wishful thinking

One thing voters won't tolerate - politicians who deliberately make things worse - Lord Ashcroft Polls

This article was first published in the Mail on Sunday   MY LATEST POLL has thrown up something unusual – an unprecedented three-way tie between Reform, the Conservatives and the Greens. It’s true that with no election in sight, voting intention polls should be taken with more than a pinch of salt. It’s also wort...

Lord Ashcroft Polls
@pvonhellermannn Who is this Lord Ashcroft and why are we so interested in how he votes?
