my favorite canonically autistic characters are symmetra ( overwatch ) , entrapta ( she-ra and the princesses of power ) and shane hollander ( heated rivalry )

@pantransautie I'm not familiar with overwatch, but I'm with you on Entrapta and Hollander. Also Amos Burton (The Expanse), and honorable mention for his best friend Prax.
@joshsusser @pantransautie
Were they canonically autistic in the books? Because I don't think that it was mentioned in the show. Otherwise I agree about both characters, although Amos was more entertaining, so many great lines!
"I didn't always work in space."
"You can be both."
"I *am* that guy."
@murdoc @pantransautie I think it's time we can accept that characters who are described as autistic are in fact canonically autistic without explicitly naming it so. We do that with queer characters all the time now. "Show, don't tell" is supposed to be how to write characters, so I think it's fine when they do that for autism.
@joshsusser @pantransautie
Oh, I agree. I only asked because Ray had specified it and I was curious.
@murdoc @pantransautie one of their list is Hollander, and he is word-of-god canonically autistic, but the character doesn't realize it so it is never mentioned explicitly in the text. so by that standard Amos is canon too. It *is* more obvious in the books when you get to hear Amos' thinking. Masking is really hard for him.

@pantransautie I recently had occasion to watch the first season of Heated Rivalry but I didn’t know this was an adaptation of a book series. I may have to track it down to read!

More importantly I didn’t recognize Hollander was Autistic! I must re-watch.

@btaroli @pantransautie the book series starts with Scott and Kip’s story, Game Changer. It came first because it was integral to Shane and Ilya’s story, book 2. Books 3, 4 & 5 are not as good, imo, but 6 continues Shane and Ilya’s story adding much more depth to Ilya and Shane. That’s season 2 I believe. I never realized Shane was supposed to be autistic, wasn’t really mentioned in the book.

If you want really subtle, watch "The Residence" on Netflix. While the main detective is clearly autistic, the entire downstairs crew is autistic while the entire upstairs allistic crew is portrayed as bumbling and ineffective. Nice turnaround. There is also one person in each of upstairs/downstairs who doesn't fit in because they belong to the other group.
