I am so tired of hearing about colonizing Mars. I already live on a perfectly good planet. Maybe we don't fuck this one up rather than flee to a fixer-upper.
@ariadne if we can terraform mars , we can terraform earth with a fraction of the resources

@ariadne yeah it’s honestly extremely misleading and dishonest

would be better off spending the effort reducing and undoing the effects of racclimate change for a start.

i think in practice if anything happens the “raccolony” would be absolutely tiny and quite terrible for anyone involved

@ariadne we can’t even colonise Antarctica long-term and we’re supposed to colonise a planet with no breathable atmosphere and poisonous soil?
@ariadne If only billionaires and their sycophants colonize Mars, I’m all for giving them a one way ticket
@ariadne On the other hand, I'm in favor of firing the billionaires into space so we can have some peace and quiet around here for once.
@ariadne an oxygen atmosphere is a nice feature
@ariadne If we can't keep a pre-made ecosystem running, I doubt "terraforming" will be doable.
@ariadne also like, where the fuck are the moon colonies? I feel like I was promised moon colonies by now and we barely remember how to get there.
@ariadne havent we had enough colonization
@ariadne plus, it's impossible with all the radiation there. Dumbasses
@ariadne Colonising Mars sounds like a great way to get rid of the super-rich, such as Elon Musk and his mates.
@IndyRichard @ariadne That would be great. But you do realize that their plan is to ship us off to Mars. They plan on staying right here…
@ariadne Indeed that is exactly the point, for the owner class to inculcate the idea that Earth is hopeless & it’s OK to give up on it. Hollywood movies reinforce this. To stay & thrice means we cannot allow those in the owner class now to dominate anymore. It’s revolutionary. See also “Leave it in the ground.”
@ariadne The irony is that the billionaires that want us to push further out into space are setting up conditions ripe for a Kessler incident that could lock us in, instead.
@ariadne It's such a stupid concept. There's no usable atmosphere on Mars and the conditions are far too harsh for long-term human occupation on it's own. For it to even hypothetically work you'd have to build tons of pressurized climate-controlled pods and domes for people to live in, which they can't possibly leave without putting on a bulky spacesuit. And since travelling to Mars is obviously going to be exorbitantly expensive, the only people that'll ever do it are billionaires.
@ariadne (not including a million other problems with colonizing Mars I'm not even going to begin to get into)
@ariadne Perhaps we can send some people to Mars to protect Earth 😇

@ariadne

Shhhh, we don't want them to know about the destination for our B Ark.

@ariadne Some people are too much into colonizing... xD
@ariadne
Oh, let them go...
@JuanjoSan i'm not against elon going wherever he wants, i just tire of hearing about it
@ariadne I mean that there's plenty space for them in mars.

@ariadne

Humanity should not be allowed to go outside until it has tidied up its room.

Let the billionaires go, so the the rest of us can clean this place up
@ariadne in my college science class we had to write a paper on an invasive species, and I chose Homo sapiens. I said Homo sapiens can’t stop themselves from invading all of the land on earth, causing species extinction, and now Homo sapiens are so invasive they are now invading space and other planets.
