Every few years I revisit #Minecraft, and every time I'm somehow surprised at how scary it is.

Harmless things that have jumpscared me so far:

- The game music
- A friendly squid
- My pet cow mooing
- The axe that I was literally carrying
- The sheep that I forgot was following me
- Saw an enderman from really far away
- Sailing along happily and then realising I'm over a really deep bit
- The game music again

@teahands I emphasize with this. Enderman still freak the heck out of me

I gotta ask about the axe, tho. How did it scare you?

@Catwoman69y2k I don't even know, I was out chopping down trees and maybe I moved the camera at a weird angle or turned round too fast or something.

These things happen when you recently saw a spider on a whole other island and are stressing out that it might sneak up behind you 😅

@Catwoman69y2k I've just dug into an unexpected cavern while mining and had to log off for a bit to calm down.

Glad my suffering is bringing someone happiness, I suppose!

@ric It's something about the first person perspective. Same reason I used to freak out so badly with Subnautica 😱

@ric Alright you get back to me when you've been mining / swimming in a dark hole and suddenly something makes a godawful noise right behind you 😭

@teahands now it's sounding like an idsoftware game 🤔

@teahands right there with you! I love it but have spent a bunch of time constructing scenarios or modpacks to let me enjoy the mining and crafting parts without the jumpscares. (you seem to have already discovered peaceful mode, but it locks one out of some late game content, hence mods)

@relsqui I have this bizarre feeling that playing on peaceful would be letting the side down somehow. Like I must persevere and one day I'll get over the crippling fear.

Today might not have been that day, but you never know about tomorrow! :D

Turning on Keep Inventory greatly reduced my anxiety level. 😅

@relsqui @leadore Actually didn't know that was an option tbh! I'll have to check for it, although my playstyle is so cowardly that losing stuff is rare 😅

Turning subtitles on is my fave trick. They give a direction arrow for the bad noises, so I know which way to avoid digging in my mine.
