the nice thing about being bad at fullstack is that if I get bored of trying to fix my busted sql I can try to fix my busted css for a while

*gently grabs the cheeks of all programmers to stare deeply into their eyes*

All I want is a dry tech manual. A boring, well indexed manual that defines every function. Not a chatbot. Not a training. Not a million "articles" that I have to search through. Not a "community forum".

My rice cooker came with one. I want one for every piece of software I have to interact with.

Go get yourself a technical writer if necessary.

I. Want. An. Instructional. Manual.

(that's the itch version, which you can play for free in a browser, but steam gets new content first. so I think itch now has the last chapter I played, which I loved, and steam has the one that just came out.)

new #terraformental chapter is out!! I'm neck deep in another brainy game right now but I'm extremely excited to sink my teeth into this.

it's a tiny indie game that's only half complete. if it were released as-is today, it might still be in my top ten favorite video games. it's mechanically fun enough that the writing didn't have to be good, and the writing is good.

Try to survive and perhaps eventually even tame an unknown planet in this incremental semi-idle game.

What a week it has been. Replicant Space went live seven days ago, and it's been a complete blast this week.

The game is an API-first, HTTP game (heavily based on the Bobiverse), where players travel through the galaxy - mining asteroid belts, printing drones and helping civilisations they find. There's a ton of features, a seasonal story arc, megastructure projects and plenty of space to hack your own client automation.

We had 25 new players in the first week, built an active Discord server, and released daily patches.

The players so far have explored 130 star systems, printed 200 new devices, depleted 200 mining sites, and extracted over 150,000 resources in total. And I think this was just while they were writing and testing their own client interfaces to the game.

This has been my favourite week in software development for a long time!

my two favorite things about this post, in no particular order, are

- if you don't know what a cryptic clue is, the hashtag still probably accurately describes your experience of reading it
- the phrase "salad fish," a loose handful of fricatives held together with lax vowels and chewing gum

Salad fish, left in for time, makes a natural satellite (4)
