I moved my main server from Scaleway to Hetzner. Can recommend, flawless.
Just for context, I only moved because #Scaleway discontinued my cheap server ($6/m?) I had with them for like 10+ years.
The change path to a current product ended up with a $30/m thing. I asked support, they told me I can’t migrate to a similar new product. I would have to set it up from scratch.
Which of course I did, elsewhere 🖖.
Scaleway, not a recommendation of mine anymore.
A mistake those companies often make is pissing off their “cheap” customers, not realizing that exactly those people are often the decision makers for larger deployments.

@helge I was actually going to ask what Scaleway did - thanks for being faster than I!

(I’m running an on-demand dev ox with them so I might have to have a look at those changes you mention.)

@heals They mailed me that they are discontinuing my product line and even provided a conversion flow (to the dev instances). But apparently the smallest type allowed by the conversion flow was dev-l or sth which is like $35/m.
@helge sounds about right I have a dev-m that I create and axe as-needed via a terraform script. It only costs me a few cent/month for the snapshot storage but ofc that’s not practical if you need an always-on server (which I do have at Hetzner for that very reason)!
@helge servers yes, s3 storage no.. but once you realise that you can’t move it away since it’s impossible to delete the buckets 🫣
@heals Why wouldn't you be able to delete the object stores? 🤔
@helge well I have an empty bucket here, no versioning, no retention and any previous content expired and deleted yet hetz er claims there’s a single 25 mb file in it and that effectively makes it impossible to delete the bucket even if all S3 api clients in existence claim “this bucket is completely empty and has been for two days”.
@heals Oh, a Hetzner object store, not a Scaleway one. I wonder whether you enabled the legal auditing / object locking thing? That might explain it.

@helge yes, my bad - Hetzner Object Storage!

And.. both are off according to my last S3 query and either can only be set during bucket creation as well.. I’m at a loss.

@heals Did you ask them? 🙂
@helge once the support panel is working again I might!
@helge Hetzner is always a good choice. 👍
@pterlisten @helge third positive feedback about Hetzner I have stumbled upon in a few short days.
