Apple love to preach "the UI gets out of the way of your content" with each new redesign, but how true is that in practice? Let's compare the total height of the Safari UI with a toolbar, favourites bar and tab bar visible, across the three latest Mac OS design languages – Yosemite, Big Sur and now Tahoe. I've added a red line for emphasis.

It sure looks to me like the UI is eating more into my content with each redesign.

Me, having worked on 3 different teams at different companies trying to solve a particular problem: “hey this is harder than you think, you’ll hit RAM limits sooner than you expect, and you’ll run into the halting problem”

Dev team: u don’t know; watch, we’ll have it solved in 6–7 sprints

Sprint 3… hit RAM limits

Sprint 17 (LOL)… oh look the halting problem

Sprint 22… are we sure we want to keep working on this, it’s really hard
