I had a jacket like this for years and it wasn't until my wife (very talented sewist) looked at it that I found out it really did have pockets, it just needed 20 seconds with a seam ripper to "enable" them. baffling.

@discontinuity @D_J_Nathanson @gsuberland I can't do this now because there's no money coming in, but in the past I hired tailors to fix those useless short pockets and give me real ones. It's something I should learn to do myself. But it's not something I should HAVE to learn to do because garment makers won't do it themselves.

Looking for explanations…I think that is about protecting them from getting caught & having the garment hanging better in shops. You’re meant to remove that tacking after purchase. I often feel tempted to tell people this when I see that they haven’t removed the tacking on a vent on a coat or jacket. (But I resist the temptation!)
max*ine@gsuberland @D_J_Nathanson @0xabad1dea this is normal for jacket pockets, they do it to make the dress look more shapely in the store. they expect you to cut them open so it should be very easy to undo, just cut one thread and pull it
