Dave Nathanson@0xabad1dea Sometimes there are also fake pockets on men's suit jackets. This is not nearly as diabolical but it gives a taste of the exasperation.

I had a jacket like this for years and it wasn't until my wife (very talented sewist) looked at it that I found out it really did have pockets, it just needed 20 seconds with a seam ripper to "enable" them. baffling.

Looking for explanations…I think that is about protecting them from getting caught & having the garment hanging better in shops. You’re meant to remove that tacking after purchase. I often feel tempted to tell people this when I see that they haven’t removed the tacking on a vent on a coat or jacket. (But I resist the temptation!)
