Tucked away in the woodlands of Pennsylvania lies a unique fleet of streamlined 1930s and 1950s streetcars. These St Louis and Pullman-Standard carriages have glorious vintage Americana vibes.

Many of these date to the height of the Streamline Moderne era. At this time, streamlined aerodynamic forms replaced the geometric shapes and excessive ornamentation of the earlier Art Deco style.

@ObsidianUrbex We used to have such beutiful things
@coldclimate
Lovely aren't they

@ObsidianUrbex @coldclimate

...back when public transportation in the US was civilized*, before the Car Nation attacked...

(*Well... apart from the racism, I mean. That was the exact opposite of civilized.)

@ObsidianUrbex This gives off some real "A Quiet Place" vibes - love it! Thank your for sharing!๐Ÿคฉ

(Glad, I'm following the "Rust" hashtag, albeit for different reasons๐Ÿ˜„)

@janriemer
Deffo post apocalyptic vibes. Ah I'm guessing the game Rust? ๐Ÿ˜‚

@ObsidianUrbex Ha, no, Rust the programming language. ๐Ÿ˜‰

@janriemer
Ah the other, other rust ๐Ÿ˜‚
@ObsidianUrbex Love these photos, absolutely fabulous ๐Ÿ˜
Where is this at?

@tpushic

I Google'd "Pennsylvania abandoned pullman train" and it came right up.

@ObsidianUrbex

Nice, but what a waste

@Captain_Jack_Sparrow
They are being used for parts, I guess as and when the need arises
@ObsidianUrbex Rebuild them or recycle them is my thinking
@ObsidianUrbex Looks like these are PPC streetcars https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCC_streetcar
SF Muni still has several in service (along with other antique streetcars from around the world).

@ObsidianUrbex @briankrebs A shame these are rusting away. For anyone who loves PCC (and other) trolleys, there are working ones at the Seashore Trolley Museum: https://trolleymuseum.org

@[email protected] Wow! Are you able to share where this is? I grew up in PA!

@ObsidianUrbex would you be willing to share, or dm me, the location of these car? I recently moved to Philadelphia and would love to take my Sony dslr out there myself. Give me a chance to explore the state while taking cool photos.

I am still a hobbyist with my dslr cameras and this looks like such a great place for me to learn more of the craft.

@ObsidianUrbex SEPTA in Philadelphia still has some rebuilt PCC trolleys in use, complete with wheelchair lift

@ObsidianUrbex Thanks for posting this. To me, Streamline Moderne is by far the most beautiful school of America industrial, graphic and artistic design. What I love most is its underlying theme of speeding our way to a bright future by way of beneficial science and technology. Good stuff.
@patrascan
My pleasure! I'm happy you enjoyed the photos ๐Ÿ™

@ObsidianUrbex @patrascan

I'm so glad I have a streamlined toaster. The design really cuts down on the wind resistance.

@rayotron @ObsidianUrbex ditto for my streamlined lipstick case, designed by the Streamline Moderne master himself, Raymond Loewy

@ObsidianUrbex

Don't worry they said. Automobiles will solve all your problems they said. Gas is only 20c a gallon they said.

The streetcars, old and rusted are still photogenic.

To the best of my knowledge, there are no prize-winning photos of bumper-to-bumper traffic stacked up in 8 lane freeways.

@ObsidianUrbex I'm weirdly fascinated by these images of abandoned things worldwide, Thanks for posting. Here's an abandoned Soviet turbojet-driven (imagine that !) railcar.
@ObsidianUrbex reminds me when we were traveling from spain to france, we passed https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canfranc_International_railway_station

@ObsidianUrbex Oh how I'd love to know the history of that property!!
