Tucked away in the woodlands of Pennsylvania lies a unique fleet of streamlined 1930s and 1950s streetcars. These St Louis and Pullman-Standard carriages have glorious vintage Americana vibes.

Many of these date to the height of the Streamline Moderne era. At this time, streamlined aerodynamic forms replaced the geometric shapes and excessive ornamentation of the earlier Art Deco style.

@ObsidianUrbex Thanks for posting this. To me, Streamline Moderne is by far the most beautiful school of America industrial, graphic and artistic design. What I love most is its underlying theme of speeding our way to a bright future by way of beneficial science and technology. Good stuff.

My pleasure! I'm happy you enjoyed the photos 🙏

I'm so glad I have a streamlined toaster. The design really cuts down on the wind resistance.

@rayotron @ObsidianUrbex ditto for my streamlined lipstick case, designed by the Streamline Moderne master himself, Raymond Loewy

@patrascan

Ah, a true connoisseur! After searching online for streamlined toasters my '50s Sunbeam is maybe just streamlined lite. I love it, but compared to the ones Loewy designed it doesn't hold up.

@rayotron thanks for your comment. I adore this style. Martin Greif's "Depression Modern: The Thirties Style in America" is a love letter--- a joy to flip through just for the illustrations---enhanced with thoughtful, well-researched contextual analysis. Greif eloquently describes the underlying philosophy of optimism for the future expressed with grace, wit and style. I recommend this book to a fellow fan!
