Carry a plastic bag full of paper towels in your bike bag!

In the past year or so I've given paper towels out to 4 or 5 people who I spotted by the side of the road with grease on their fingers and a panicked or despondent look on their face. Even if they had already managed to get their chain back on, they still had to deal with thick black grease on their hands.

I've rarely seen such profuse gratitude as when I handed these people the paper towels.

@timmc I carry wet wipes for this reason. So nice to have clean hands, and a clean bum when out riding and an accidental chain or other circumstance pop up.

@timmc

And how was their gratitude when you told them that they could just wax their chains, and never have to deal with thick black grease on their hands or clothes ever again!🤪

@isol Heh! I started waxing just recently, and I'm not entirely sold on it yet.
@timmc You'll never be an evil capitalist with that kind of attitude. 🙄
@Cycling_Liz ...and then I hit 'em with the invoice.
@timmc Always helps to have something made of oil to help as well. That can be peanut butter, sunblock, chapstick, or whatever moisturiser you have to hand. It'll get way more oil off than any detergent.

@timmc I always carry in my saddle bag a pair of disposable vinyl gloves. As light as a feather to carry and keeps your hands clean when doing roadside emergency maintenance.

@Rastal @timmc Good call. I’ve ruined a number of pairs of socks wiping my hands off. I always carried gloves when I was coaching high school mountain biking.
