On GrapheneOS, one must download the Play Store of choice first in order to get apps. Wild land here.
#GrapheneOS
@rio standard behavior of #lineageOS aswell. The choice of your app store is a very personal decision. #eOS ships a more complete "applounge". Many hate it.
@Kurt @rio Why do they hate applounge? Asking as someone planning on getting eos.
@lukemartell @rio gettin /e/OS is not a one-step transition. Get a second phone. Try various setups. Keep the mission critical apps on your old phone. - applaunch has stability issues.
@Kurt @rio ah stability, I see, thanks. I've been running my stock android phone with play services disabled and everything important works fine.
@lukemartell @rio nice. How did you disable? Most phones run into trouble without play services. If you are really that hardcore, maybe lineageOS is for you. Less bloated.
@Kurt @rio you just go to the play services app and disable it in settings. I've only been doing it for a while to see what will work without play services which is most things except google apps.
@Kurt @rio even my banking app works without play services and without microg to replace it despite people saying it won't.

@lukemartell @Kurt @rio Applounge is basically a combination of f-droid and a front-end for the play store. I don't like that free software is mixed up with proprietary. You also can't uninstall the default system apps like applounge on /e/OS.

You may with to consider getting a device with iodéOS, it comes with f-droid and aurora store (an improved and privacy-respecting google play front-end) by default and any and all pre-installed apps can be removed. Which is as it should be.

@brinerustle @Kurt @rio I'm getting a fairphone and that comes with e/os so I'll stick with that. I use Fdroid and also Accrescent and Aurora.
@Kurt First time I heard that /e/OS was bad was today and it was by GrapheneOS; claiming that /e/OS has a backdoor for the French Government while GrapheneOS doesn't.

@Kurt source: GrapheneOS Official Discord Server (emphasis by me)

GrapheneOS is being heavily targeted by the French state because we provide highly secure devices and won't include backdoors for law enforcement access. They're conflating us with companies selling closed source products using portions of our code. Both French state media and corporate media are publishing many stories attacking the GrapheneOS project based on false and unsubstantiated claims from French law enforcement. They've made a clear threat to seize our servers and arrest our developers if we do not cooperate by adding backdoors. Due to this, we're leaving France and leaving French service providers including OVH. We need substantial help from the community to push back against this across platforms. People malicious towards us are also using it as an opportunity to spread libel/harassment content targeting our team, raid our chat rooms and much more. /e/ and iodéOS are both based in France, and are both actively attacking GrapheneOS including spreading false narratives about it not being for regular people which helped to support the false narratives being propagated by French law enforcement. /e/ receives substantial government funding. Both are extremely non-private and insecure which is why France is targeting us while those get government funding. We need a lot more help than usual and we're sending our the first ever notification to everyone on the server because this is a particularly bad situation. If people help us, it will enable us to focus more on development again including releasing experimental Pixel 10 releases very soon.

Due to direct threats from French law enforcement agencies based on false and unsubstantiated claims they're propagating about us, we're moving everything away from French providers (OVH) and server locations. We won't have any developers working in France either. GrapheneOS remains fully legal in France despite these authoritarian attacks by law enforcement, state media and corporate media supporting the state. GrapheneOS will continue working in France including our services... (rest omitted)
