If you're using #Pachli Current and use the on-device #translation feature, would you mind taking a look at "Preferences > Manage language packs"?

You shouldn't notice any difference from previous behaviour. If you do notice a difference please let me know.

To explain - at #Google there are two ways to do things. The way that works but is deprecated, and the way that doesn't work yet.

@pachli Ugh, I have a related question — is it possible to have on-device translation for Pachli installed from F-Droid?

#Pachli #fdroid

@evgandr Unfortunately not, as although the translation libraries are free to use they are not open source (more info on that at https://pachli.app/pachli/2025/08/28/2.16.0-release.html#support-on-device-translation-if-installed-from-google-play).

I was not able to find open source translation libraries that didn't consume huge amounts of memory and frequently crash.

Pachli 2.16.0 released

Pachli 2.16.0 is now available. This release supports privacy-preserving on-device translation (when installed from Google Play), remembers and restores your reading position on the Local and Federated timelines, further improves the UX around emojis, and more.

@pachli Oh, didn't know about this, sad news
