We need to make Britain great again. And get back to the late 18th century when Britain ruled the world. And sewage flowed freely down the streets.

> First it was Horbury in Yorkshire, then Margate in Kent, now Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire, is there a single stretch of the sewage system anywhere in the country operating as expected?

'River of raw sewage' pours down UK street with 'biohazard' faeces flooding road and path

Horrified residents in Stoke-on-Trent were left to clean up after raw sewage including poo, toilet paper and nappies poured down their street when drains overflowed during heavy rain

@jbond The entire area I live is having sewage problems. There have been a number of big leaks recently. Thames Water, oddly enough. One of the leaks disabled the railway, and is still not fixed properly nearly 5 months on.
@BackFromTheDud Rye House? 5 miles from me.
@jbond Yup, that's the bugger. There's a new build across from me (on a former GREEN FIELD site). They started moving in towards the end of last year, the sewage pump failed 2 weeks ago leaking raw sewage into a freshwater brook. No good smell, either! 😑

@BackFromTheDud

One of the last couple of year's projects was to document the overflow outlets of the East Herts sewage treatment plants by Thames Water.

All these new build sites have Thames as a statutory consultant. It's always boiler plate that says "fine, with money". That promise eventually comes due.

@jbond They are all working exactly as expected. Making huge profits. #Capitalism #Privatisation

Right, right. As per usual, anything bad is capitalism's fault, but absolutely nothing good.

@jbond @AlexanderKingsbury Capitalism is all about competition. Look around the world and see where that leads. #Iran #USA #Israel #Russia #Ukraine

Capitalism is IN PART about competition. And it leads to wonderful things. Are you going to whine about how the cost of, for example, consumer electronics has plummeted over decades? Are you going to complain about how more people have problems from eating too much than too little? Gesturing at war is nothing but a cheap rhetorical trick, trading on entirely different concepts of "competition".

@AlexanderKingsbury @jbond You are correct. Capitalism also relies on cooperation. People working together toward a common goal. Unfortunately the competition part leads to disparities of reward and so we get the rich. Also unfortunately it seems the richer you are the greedier you become. And that greed seems hell bent on destroying us. It’s all cheap rhetoric but I still blame capitalism for much of the world’s woes.
@jbond - Scotland. Where Scottish Water is publicly owned.
