I don't understand this bizarre impulse other white people have to defend "anti-woke" and anti-diversity ideas as some form of "free thinking" or "moderation."

They're even worse than the meme guy demanding compromise between the KKK and BLM because they don't want to hear what BLM has to say at all. Just sucking up to other garbage white people.

That is to say, I do understand, they're just cowards about their bigotry.

@gwynnion That and they're so damn conflict averse and afraid to pick a side that that they can't see the difference between the two. They're both loud and unsettling and they just want to go back to pretending the world is fine.

Sure, if they engaged their brains for even a few seconds, it's pretty obvious that one is a bunch of hateful bigots and the other is just people who are tired of suffering. But to them, neither is their problem. They just hate the fact that a fight is happening.

So yeah, cowards.

@faithisleaping I think they're pretty biased even if they don't want to admit it. They clearly find marginalized people and progressives / leftists more threatening than white supremacists. They just prefer to sweep the fight under the rug where they don't have to see it.

@faithisleaping Like, I don't think they're unaware of who the "anti-woke" people are. They just agree with them. And obviously, it's a lot more comfortable talking to people who agree with them than contrariwise.

"Oh, you're just so brave for making a movie about a white man instead of making it 'political.'" Which is like catnip to cowardly suck-ups like Andy Weir.

@gwynnion @faithisleaping

their priority is quiet. not justice, not even peace. just quiet. because their lives are pretty damn comfortable when its quiet. so thats what they want.

@miriamrobern @faithisleaping Yeah, and they know the easiest way to have quiet is to lock people out of the platforms and political spaces necessary to push back on them. White comfort and white comity is white supremacy.
@miriamrobern @gwynnion @faithisleaping
This
Just three monkeys covering their eyes, ears and mouth.
@gwynnion I think that the people who really stick to this recognize it as a way to support white supremacy that is very difficult to combat especially if the person fighting this tact is assuming good faith. I say this as a person whose default position is to assume good faith. It took me way too long to accept that most people who are stuck on this argument simply DO NOT WANT to see the folly of their argument.
@griotspeak That's exactly what it is. They want to do the wrong and in my opinion evil thing but they want it to be taken for granted that they're well-intentioned, even naive, and hide behind some high-minded sounding nonsense so they personally don't have to engage in the conflict directly.
@gwynnion And I don’t even think that most people who do this *realize* how much cover it provides to the status quo. Said differently “my response makes it sound incredibly deliberate but I think it is more subtle and passive than that”
@griotspeak It is subtle and pervasive and insidious but I stopped assuming good faith or obliviousness after the nth time this came up. These people are quite clear which side they will come down on when push comes to shove.

@gwynnion

There are two dynamics going on here.

The first is racism and hatred. The second is a quota system is acceptable to the exploitative capitalist system DEI is equated with

Instead of dealing with economic issues, we can just have proportional representation in the system of exploitation.

In 2016 flyover America wanted a choice between Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump. The Democratic Party gave them HRC. The very part of the party that threw working class people under the bus

@gwynnion

The biggest impediment to a real alternative to the Republicans and to oligarchy is democratic leadership

The Democratic establishment would like nothing better than to have progressives disappear so that they can maintain their deal with the devil.

We already know that the Democratic Party leadership is perfectly willing to throw trans people under the bus. Anyone who’s heard the bullshit coming out of Newsom's mouth already knows this.

@gwynnion They're afraid to admit they're wrong, afraid to make a change, to lose whatever makes them feel like they have a high status in this world, of not being in control. Combine that with a heaping pile of steaming stupidity and you get what we got now.
White people have been racist from the start and it's not changing any time soon it seems like.
Don't @ me with 'not all whitepeople' If you're offended you're part of the problem. Go change things instead of whining about hurt feefees
@gwynnion something related... when people openly wonder whether "woke has gone too far." Which, now that I think of it, has echos of people asking "has #MeToo gone too far?"
