I don't understand this bizarre impulse other white people have to defend "anti-woke" and anti-diversity ideas as some form of "free thinking" or "moderation."

They're even worse than the meme guy demanding compromise between the KKK and BLM because they don't want to hear what BLM has to say at all. Just sucking up to other garbage white people.

That is to say, I do understand, they're just cowards about their bigotry.

@gwynnion I think that the people who really stick to this recognize it as a way to support white supremacy that is very difficult to combat especially if the person fighting this tact is assuming good faith. I say this as a person whose default position is to assume good faith. It took me way too long to accept that most people who are stuck on this argument simply DO NOT WANT to see the folly of their argument.
@gwynnion And I don’t even think that most people who do this *realize* how much cover it provides to the status quo. Said differently “my response makes it sound incredibly deliberate but I think it is more subtle and passive than that”
@griotspeak It is subtle and pervasive and insidious but I stopped assuming good faith or obliviousness after the nth time this came up. These people are quite clear which side they will come down on when push comes to shove.
