Saw an article about this that linked to a video on another platform. I don't love posting content from elsewhere, but I will make exceptions....

@TheBreadmonkey

@TheBreadmonkey fun fact, they also fucked up their own constitution just the other day. Or may be not, depends on who you ask. But they certainly did not make it any easier to establish democracy in the country
@TheBreadmonkey The moment they pulled off the cover I knew what this sculpture was for. I remember the video of that dog rescue. What a beautiful tribute.
@TheBreadmonkey And suddenly it's super dusty in here. 😒
@TheBreadmonkey this is heartwarming and therapeutic to see, thank you for sharing with us πŸ™

@TheBreadmonkey this actually reminds me about this statue:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victory_Salute_(statue)

it's a monument celebrating tommie smith and john carlos, who famously performed a solemn black power salute in protest during the 1968 olympics, resulting in one of the most widely known photos of all time

the third man in the picture, peter norman - a white australian - stood with them in solidarity, and he asked to be excluded from the monument so that others can (and should) take a stand just as he did

Victory Salute (statue) - Wikipedia

Black Power photo | Peter Norman's incredible final gesture in Olympic protest story

It is perhaps the most iconic sports photograph ever taken. It features an Aussie, who wasn't done yet.

@spaceinvader @slowpoke Peter Norman got a lot of hate from his fellow unhued exactly because he refused to center himself and their whiteness. he refused to play the Hollywood white saviour. he was a true ally til the day he died.
@spaceinvader @slowpoke The full story of that moment and their lifelong friendship is beautiful.
@TheBreadmonkey I'm counting 6 people in the chain + 1 offering help from the side.
@TheBreadmonkey this is just beautiful, thank you for sharing it
