For 20 years, #EarthHour has brought millions of people together for our planet.

Tonight, we’re switching off the lights at our Brussels headquarters to mark this global moment.

Homes, workplaces, and public buildings use 40% of Europe’s energy. Every action counts.

Take part. Switch off your lights for an hour. Build a brighter, more sustainable future together. 💡🌱

@EUCommission
Great.
When are you going to end those crazy and nonsensical DST changes?
Hello @tmallafre, as you know this isn’t a decision we can take on our own. We put forward a proposal to end seasonal clock changes back in 2018, supported by the European Parliament, but the national governments within the Council have not yet taken a position. Nevertheless, we believe a coordinated solution in the seasonal clock changes is still achievable, and remain focused on fostering consensus among Member States.
@EUCommission how about taking action against building AI data centers in Europe? Surely that will save a lot more energy than... this

@kaito02 @EUCommission come now, we can't have actual changes take root, that would be too upsetting to the economic order of things! Better to do the most performative things such as disabling lights for an hour once a year for 2 decades! Look how well it worked! Climate change got stopped right before it was too late! Utopia achieved and all the EU bureaucrats can keep their nice paychecks, oh joy oh joy.

please do not check the thermometer btw

@EUCommission

Lately there's been a bit of talk about the electric grid. For example, in the UK they are (planning to?) offering free electricity when the production is higher than consumption, to stabilize the grid so they don't have to turn off wind turbines and stuff like that.

Of course this earth hour thing is scheduled, so the power plants can prepare for it, but I do wonder if its doing more bad than good?

I mean obviously saving electricity is good but would be interesting to know what sort of preparations the electricity providers will have to do because of this. I don't know if its a joke or not but I've heard that during big football matches the UK electricity providers have to prepare for the intermission because so many people go put the kettle on.

@EUCommission what if this was every night tho?
@EUCommission You know exactly what reactions you'll get for this post here.

@EUCommission

Performative bullshit, while at the same time promoting "#AI" data centers that burn our planet, drink our water.

Bravo, hypocrites.

@EUCommission turned off my lights and only vote for politicians that support a sustainable future.

Fight those exhaust pipe lovers - they'll kill us all.

@EUCommission We already skip an hour. 😬

@EUCommission

I'm sorry, but just this week you were pushing to extend the highly consuming feeding of user data to data centers and AI systems with #ChatControl

You weren't happy it was rejected once by the EU Parliament and you tried again.

How is that good for the environment?

@EUCommission Will do that tonight between 2 and 3 AM 😜
@EUCommission Well... with all LEDs, that doesn't do much. How about setting the thermostat to 20 degrees for the whole winter?
@Ondrej Zizka Klidně si nastav 15. Já jsem zimomřivý a u dvaceti bych byl neustále nemocný. 😝
@EUCommission
Your'e all bluster. When it comes down to it, you let Orban lead you around the ring.
